Study Trip of 1st-Year CFGM to the Aran Valley
Day 1 – Sergi Sales – Ornithologist
From September 29th to October 3rd, the 1st-year CFGM students of Natural Environment Use and Conservation took part in a study trip to the Aran Valley and Pallars Sobirà. The main objective of this outing was to strengthen bonds of coexistence and camaraderie among the students and, at the same time, to have a first contact with the forestry world.
Day 2 – Salau Pass – Ignasi Colomer
On Monday morning we began the trip with a visit to the Estany d’Ivars i Vila-sana, where @sergisales, from @fundacioplegadis, explained to us the importance of scientific bird ringing.
Thanks to his dedication and enthusiasm, the students were able to actively participate in the ringing process.
On Tuesday we got up very early to go on a hike to the Salau Pass (2,080 m).
Guided by @ignasicolomer94, a former student and wildlife expert, we were able to enjoy the experience of the deer rut.
On Wednesday we had an intense day with two visits.
In the morning, we toured the Mata de València, a fir forest considered the largest in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most important in southern Europe.
In the afternoon, together with the group @pirynaicus, we met at the Park House of @pnaiguestortes for a session on the brown bear in the Pyrenees. During the activity, we set traps and camera traps.
Day 3 – Mata de València – Brown Bear – Aigüestortes National Park
Day 4 – Les – Sobirana Forest
Thursday was devoted to timber harvesting.
We travelled to a forest in Les, where the company @sobiranaforest is carrying out a selective thinning of fir trees.
In addition, @aleix_sanchez99 gave us a masterclass on tree felling techniques.
On the way back home, we made a final stop to visit @buseuproject_, the only private nature reserve in the heart of the Pyrenees, which has several hides for observing the four European vulture species.
We hope that our students enjoyed this study trip to the fullest and that it helped them grow both personally and professionally.
