On October 7th, the group of students from the 2nd year of Agricultural Production visited the Mas Terricabras farming and livestock operation in Oristà.
Mas Terricabras is a family-run farm whose main activities are pig and cattle production.
Mas Terricabras uses renewable energy: for heating it uses biomass produced on the farm itself, and electricity generated by photovoltaic solar panels.
The land base managed by the farm consists of forests, pastures and arable land, where principles of regenerative agriculture are also applied. These areas are mainly used for the production of forage, conventional cereals and also an ancient variety of wheat, forment wheat, which they market directly to bakers for the production of quality bread.
The herd of suckler cows and the rearing and fattening of calves contribute to local production and help maintain the territory, pastures and forests. The application of new technologies is a tool that enables better livestock management.
